Sun, Sea and Sand – A Stone’s Throw from Selborne Golf Estate
Date Published

As summer approaches, lazy days, salty sea breezes and ocean waves lure us to the beach. Situated just over an hour from Durban’s King Shaka Airport, Selborne Golf Estate on the KZN South Coast offers you a beach holiday in one of our fully-furnished and luxury self-catering rental homes. On arrival, you can kick off your shoes and immediately head straight for the beach.
Pennington Beach
Pennington is affectionately referred to as the ‘jewel of the South Coast.’ With its woodland setting, subtropical climate, and unspoiled beach, this is where your family seaside holiday starts. The beach is located just 3.5km from Selborne Golf Estate, allowing you either a quick drive or a picturesque, leisurely stroll to dip your feet in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and feel the sand between your toes.
Pennington Beach is a proudly Blue Flag beach and your only aim is to spend a long lazy day lying on the beach, safely playing in the waves, or fishing from the rocks.
For younger kids, there is a safe tidal pool and they can also curiously roam the rock pools for small marine life. Make sure buckets and spades are packed for sandcastle building and collecting shells.
As a resident at one of the Selborne Golf Estate rentals, you enjoy access to the private Selborne Beach Club at Pennington Beach. This offers you private parking, a swimming pool, braai area, kitchen, changing rooms and restrooms.
As the sun sets, you can enjoy relaxing sundowners from the wooden viewing deck before you head back home.
Scottburgh Beach
For a change of pace, Scottburgh Beach, 20 minutes away from Selborne Golf Estate, will tempt you with a hive of beach activity options. Ideal for all year round snorkelling, swimming and surfing, you will need to spend more than just one day enjoying the subtropical climate and warm waters and all that is on offer.
With shark nets in place and lifeguards on duty, this family-friendly beach will appeal to all ages and requests. For thrill-seekers, the super tube water slide will result in endless shrieks of delight. If more leisurely water sports are your preference, then a leisurely trip on the lagoon in a canoe will allow you to relax and appreciate the scenery.
Whether a seasoned surfer or novice, this is the beach to catch a wave. Bodyboards and surfboards are all available for hire. Abseiling is offered during peak seasons and for the avid angler, rock fishing from Black Rocks at the mouth of the lagoon can scope you out Shad and Garrick. Fishing from The Point on the south side of the main beach, can potentially reel you in Cob, Garrick, Dusky Sharks and the occasional Kingfish as an impressive catch of the day.
